Simple Cards for Beginner Stampers

Last week on the Penny Black Blog here, we showcased simple stamping and the design team shared  cards and instructions to help get you started.

Here are the two cards that I made for my day, both using very limited supplies, if someone is new to stamping one of the first ink colours they will invest in is Black, so I have only used this colour ink. Penny Black Products used:

Instructions:

Stamp delicate pattern on bottom two thirds with Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto white card stock measuring 4" x 5 3/4" then stamp sentiment using same ink in the top right corner. Ready to mount onto a black card blank measuring 6 1/4" x 4 1/4".  It will look like this

Wrap a piece of black statin ribbon around the white card and glue a faux bow onto the left side, add a pearl hat pin to finish off. (I made the hat pins myself but they are easy to buy ready made).

Tip:- To get a clean impression take the ink to the stamp, this way you can see where you have inked, also when stamping onto card, do not rock the stamp backwards and forwards as this will blur the impression.

Second Card, using same background stamp and inks but substituting the sentiment with Special Time 4174H and using Mix and Match Cardstock Rose Garden 14-001.

Instructions:-
Stamp sentiment onto white card measuring 2 1/4" x 4" with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and stamp the background onto Rose Garden card stock measuring 3 3/4" x 4" again with black ink (don't worry if you stamp the pattern the wrong way round, it still looks ok!).  Tip: if you are rusty at stamping by stamping onto separate pieces of card, it won't matter if you make a mistake, only one bit of card will be wasted, not your whole project). It should now look like this

Add ribbon to the middle and mount onto a black card blank measuring 6 1/4' x 4 1/4" , tie two ribbons together to create a faux bow and adhere to left of card, add pearl hat pin to finish.

Hope that if you are new to stamping this has inspired you to have a go, a few final recommendations, buy a good ink; such as Memento or Versafine, invest in good quality deep etched stamps such as Penny Black (cheap ones may seem a bargain but they really don't give such a nice impression) and practice, if you make a mistake it is only a piece of paper that is wasted! Buy a good background stamp..you will be amazed how many times you will use it!

Thanks for visiting.
