All a flutter

This weeks theme over on the Penny Black Blog is distressing, be it with ink or torn or ruffed up paper, if it looks distressed then it counts! I thought I would show a simple card with distressed edges using Mauve Twilight Stickeroo 10-198 available here (the added bonus is that this sticker already has a distressed look to the background.

I cut round the butterfly on the sticker and added powder to the backs of the wings to prevent them from sticking to the mount, then added a bit of diamond stickles to the edges of the wings.  The sticker was then mounted onto green and plum card and dimensional glue used to hold the wings up.

The body of the butterfly was beaded and wire antennae added. The background in the sticker gave me an idea for the cream card blank, I stamped the letter background  1999L with Aged Mahogany distress ink on two corners and the sparkle burst shape (from the trims set 30-068) available here, in Plum Archival ink.  I then added a Aged Mahogany distress ink to the edges of the card with a blending tool. The sentiment from the Tiny Wishes set 30-026 available here, was stamped in plum ink and edges distressed and layered with circles cut using spellbinders nesting circles.

I also love altering objects that are designed for the home, when I saw some Butterfly Mirrors in a local store I knew they would be a perfect gift for my Mum, and it fits with todays butterfly theme!

My initial plan was to emboss the mirrors, but after melting one ...whoops (I didn't realise they were plastic), I chose to just stamp each remaining one with Staz On.

One half of each mirror has been stamped with Penny Black Modesty Stamp 3645K . I chose not to add ribbons, lace or pearls to the project, as tempting as it was, I decided they would be a dust trap and make them harder to clean. I think they will look great on my Mum's wall!

Have a great week everyone, apologies for such a long post!
